| This is great for our sport in Tulsa. Speed has become non existant in Tulsa over the last few years due mainly to rink closures. "Skates" is owned, if I am not mistaken, by a former Art and Speed skater along with her husband. This is exciting news for you guys and I hope you are able to get this up and running.

Location: Tulsa OKlahoma | This week 14 skaters total. 4 on inlines. One quad skater has borrowed a pair of inlines to try. Others have expressed interest in changing also. I have talked one parent into skating next week. This weekend I plan to lay out a 100M track, 90M track and the NIRA oval.
Having owners who are excited to get a program running is GREAT! Floor time is donated at a fraction of the going rate. They are already discussing adding a Saturday morning practice to get more kids involved.

Location: Tulsa OKlahoma | Sept 3. 17 skaters, 6 inliners, 3 first time quad and 1 first time inline skater. 2 drove 1 1/2 hours for practice. One from Joplin Mo and the other Springdale Ar. Numbers continue to grow and enthusiasm is still high. Trying to keep it fun and skate difficult drills while also working on technique.
A few skaters were late due to travel problems. The rink operator allowed us to go an extra 30 minutes no extra charge. Having such motivated owner/managers is great. Hope to announce Saturday practice schedules soon.

Location: Tulsa OKlahoma | First Saturday practice: Rink owner arrived early to allow sweeping of the floor before practice started. Two first time kids on Quads, one out of state inliner, 5 regulars. Lots of laps skated, technique addressed, and of course finish with relays for fun.
Rink owner enjoyed watching the activities. He is so excited about the prospects of growing a team. All skaters are welcome.

Location: Tulsa OKlahoma | Better numbers this week. 14 skaters, 7 on inlines. Had four new skaters, 2 found out through this thread. 1 did not return from last weeks' bunch. We skated 3 drills before the first break. Every one seemed to have a good time.
2 of the new skaters are competing at Wichita this month. This will be the first meet for them.
If you are going to the Wichita meet, stop at Skates for practice Saturday morning, 9-11ish. Then continue to Wichita, only 2 1/2 hours drive away.

On the 17th, 14 skaters, 6 inlines. Couple rink rats returned for more. 1 from out of state, a very fast master man. He comes regularly.
24th: had 2 more out of state skaters, defending grand Veteran Lady, and her teammate. We actually had more inlines this practice. What a rush. This session was a lot of laps, no drill or technique. Many of us were skating the MASL speed meet in Wichita on the 25th. 2 new to racing and a skater returning after 20 or so years out competed in their first event. What a cool feeling having new skaters compete.

Nov 7: Much better numbrs this week. 12 for practice. One fewer skills drill and added a high number of laps drill. Try to keep it fun and lively while we train hard.

Location: Tulsa OKlahoma | No Practice Thursday 11-26-2009. Practice scheduled for the follwing Saturday 11-28-2009.
Have lost a few skaters and gained a few. Santa Claus is going to be good to some of the skaters. New inlines for them.
11-7-2009: 11 skaters, 6 inline. Progress is being made. Have enticed a parent to join the fun.
11-14-2009: Again 11 skaters, 5 inline. The parent keeps coming back for more. Trying hard to recruit more skaters.
11-19-2009: 9 skaters, 6 inline. Two of the Saturday skaters are coming to Thursday practice.

Location: Tulsa OKlahoma | 12-12-2009: Wow, what a day. 14 skaters, 1 ice skater trying inlines, 5 inlines, 8 Quad skaters. A grand classic quad skater tried inlines for the first time. A classic man from Ft Smith visited, quite good. Always nice to have visitors. After a couple of months absent, a quad rink rat returned, he did quite well.
30 lap warm up. Skill drill. Lap the pack with a 15 lap 2-timer at the end. Circles, 2 minutes each of right leg only, left cross only, stroke and hold cross and hold. 5 lap race for quads and ice crossover skater. 15 lap race inliners. Finished with pace line, 3 laps each and done keep up with the leader. As usual little ones 1, 2 or 3 lap races in between.

Numbers down a little this week, 12 skaters. Had the youngest skater, 6, join the main group and try relays. He wanted more. Brought an old school drill out for today. Catch and pass, space the skaters around the floor according to ability, the better skaters farther back from the starting point. Everybody skates and tries to pass the skaters in front of them. All the skaters loved it. Long warm up, inner tube drill, couple long drills involving passing for the more advanced skaters and of course relay drill.
A new skater today. On a side note, the ice crossover skater credited the inline practice sessions to her medals at an ice meet the weekend past.

What a day. Huge jump in numbers. 20 skaters, 5 members of Green Country Roller Girls deby team attended. 1 newbie on inlines, his Dad now wants to start also. The smallest/youngest on inlines for the first time. For a change of pace, set up the NIRA oval track. Every skater loved the different track. Even did relays on it. With the small floor we have, it was much safer for racing. We skated a sprint and a Medium distance for each of the 3 groups. A lap the pack drill, technique development and some passing drills. IMHO the oval tack is the we we should go. So much safer, nobody runs into the wall.

15 skaters today. Both area derby teams had bouts scheduled for today. Only 1 derby skater attended, her first speed practice. Again skated the oval track. Warmup 44 laps. Corner blasts, pulling a skater, 1 minute each, 3 sets. Long division race. Lap the pack followed by 1 lap sprint out. 2 line relay. 10 minute cool down 2-timer.
The youngest skater is really taking to his inlines. 8 skaters on inlines. Some good battles today. Got to love watching people push themselves.
On Thursday a new skater from out of town. Found the post on the forum.

Progress is showing in all the skaters. Long warm up drill, strength and balance drill directly to lap the pack drill. Resistance training directly to 1 lap lead pace line. Everybodys favorite, relays.

2-20-2010: What a day. Energy level of the charts. 18 skaters, a new returnee. Tried her inlines for the first time indoor. Everyone had been watching the Olympics and were really pumped up. 50 lap warm up. Cornerblasts with inner tubes 4X1 minute each. Pace line lap the pack, 2 lap sprintout. Relays with 3 teams, everybodies favorite. Cool down passing drill.

Some hard drills today. 3 drills in first 20 minutes with no break. 1 minute conerblasts with resistance, 5 sets. Ow, made my own legs whimper. 300 meter races on oval track, still think all racing should occur on the oval track. Relays and 15 lap 2-timer cool down. What fun, energy levels high. Seeing progress in many skaters. Rink owner joined us again today, woohoo!
