Dear Friends,

Sad news received the world inline community after the official announcement from the Venezuelan Roller Sports Federation (FVP) about it withdrawn to the organization of the 2010 CIC World Roller Speed Skating Championships originally planned for October 20-30th in Barquisimeto City. Due the politic relationship between the local government to the national government is not possible for them to warranty an excellent and safe organization. Am I the only one that can see a possible situation here where the dates for ODN get accepted for early august and then lets say worlds get moved somewhere else and for like late august or early september... hmm.

O well.... its not USARS fault. I am sure they will stay up to the minute on this and will do all they can to make it work. I think it would be cool to have ODN eairly augest and then a short gap for residency and the worlds, but I am not an elite skater so what do I know.
i think we should semi be happy about this change as we should be heading to a country that is at least a little safer for TEAM USA....

Here ya go...
Rumors began to run very fast in the last hours and finally reached a formal decision from the Venezuelan Federation of Skating. The ICC World Championships Junior and Senior 2010 envisaged for the twilight city of Barquisimeto (Lara state) of 20 to 30 October this year will be no departure.
Confirmation came moments ago by President of the Venezuelan Federation of Skating Fabian Arcila who provided details on the reasons that led up to cancel the international skating event vinotinto territory.

¨ We have devoted much work and effort to realize this dream in Venezuela but problems beyond our control forced us to take this sad decision at the last minute. In 2003 Venezuela was given a hand in organizing international skating World Championship in China and replacement of much regret now not able to fulfill the commitment that we had assumed ¨ Arcila said PatinCarrera.com exclusively.

In May last year, the International Race Committee (CIC) awarded the seat to Barquisimeto after a thorough technical inspection and policy to the city as last September, the State Governor Henry Falcón Lara traveled to Haining (China) where he officially presented the 2010 launch of Barquisimeto making clear its commitment and investment for the event and the works required for competence dispute.

In recent months the political climate changed completely Lara announced after the departure of Henry Falcón Venezuela's ruling party which caused a stir social, political and economic in the region.

¨ A strong political divergence between Governor Henry Falcon and the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez distinguished make our project feasible, since without the support of the Central Government can not carry it out. These differences are in the public domain and can be viewed online and in various media. We feel great frustration and helplessness and that the solution does not depend on us and we have no time to redirect the objectives expressing the FVP ¨ in an official statement where formalizing the decline of organizing the ICC World Cup 2010.

Political differences between the local and national government had a direct impact on the organization of the event as uncertainty took hold of all local administrative ranks and to protect the safety of athletes and delegations, the FVP finally chose to cancel the event.

¨ We very much regret the decision but we believe it was the best to protect the athletes, delegations that so hard to attend every event and the skating world that deserves a first class event and maximum guarantees. It is a painful moment for the Venezuelan skating but we are convinced that we will overcome it with more development, more events and more work from the Venezuelan Federation of Skating "said Norman maximum Venezuelan leader Fabian Arcila skating.

No alternate venue has been officially announced, although several are being considered. A similar situation happened a couple of years ago, and a new venue was found successfully. There's plenty of time.

The last time this situation happened the cancellation was made at the right before the 2008 championships giving them over a year to find a quality replacement. Now you are looking at a situation where they have a little over 6 months which almost instantaneously eliminates a city that has not held worlds or would need to build. With that being said, China seems like a very suitable option even though I'd hate to go back especially since we were just there last year. I've also heard where they had the world games could be a possibility. Also I think Chile was trying to see if it could get moved there but I didn't even know of any outstanding tracks in Chile. I have also heard possibilities of Germany because they have a great facility out there that is frequented by many skaters.
Personally I'd love to see it end up in Colombia even though it probably wont. Colombia is that most amazing skating atmosphere I've ever entered and it would just be cool to experience it again for Worlds.

Don't forget if ODN doesn't end until mid august (assuming that it starts in early august) and Worlds gets moved up even to late september or early october the Jr. World team is going to be asked to give up at least $4,000 in less than two months.

Keith,
your correct in all accounts. I hate to be so bold, but Parents of Jrs should already be starting to save and teams with potential JRs should maybe start helping too. I have some ideas on how CCN Sport could help, however I am trying to figure out some logistics and what not. But lets keep in mind this is not the fault of USARS, they to have to adapt to what has taken place.

If you are someone like me that follows geopolitics, it is the natural progression of a deteroriating political climate as Venezuela is sliding from a democracy to a dictatorship. It is a very sad thing for the people of Venezuela, as well as the skating community. As tough as it is for skaters, it is worse for the citizens. Skating will adjust, and recover. Venezuela is in for some very hard times yet to come.
